The Chikankari Saree Care Guide
Share
Chikankari is a celebration of patience and fine detail. Each Firgun piece is hand-embroidered by skilled artisans, carrying forward the traditional craft of Lucknow. Thoughtful care is a way to cherish that work, wear after wear.
Whether you are choosing your first piece from our Sarees collection or caring for a favourite, begin with the gentle care guidance below.
Gentle hand washing
For Chikankari pieces suitable for hand washing, Firgun recommends a gentle wash in cold water using a mild detergent. Do not wring, rub or soak. Avoid harsh detergents and machine washing to maintain the finesse of the embroidery. If you are unsure whether your saree can be hand washed, check with our team first.
Dry flat in shade
After hand washing, dry your saree flat in shade. Keep this step as gentle as the wash itself: do not wring the fabric.
When to choose dry cleaning
Dry cleaning is ideal for delicate fabrics such as georgette and Chanderi, or intricately embroidered pieces. Choose care suited to your saree’s fabric and embroidery rather than treating every piece alike.
Care by fabric
Georgette and Chanderi
Firgun recommends dry cleaning for these delicate fabrics, particularly when the embroidery is intricate.
Cotton, Kota Doria, Chanderi tissue and organza
For these fabrics, confirm the care method for your particular saree with our team before washing it at home. Do not assume that the general hand-wash guidance applies to every piece, or that advice for Chanderi also applies to Chanderi tissue.
Before storing your saree
Storage needs can differ by fabric and embroidery. Contact our team for advice on storage materials and folding suited to your particular saree.
Cherishing handmade detail
Slight variations in embroidery or colour are a natural part of handmade work. No two Firgun pieces are exactly alike. With proper care, Chikankari embroidery lasts beautifully.
